August 14th: WELCOME TO SIENA

August 15th: SIENA AND THE OPEN-AIR DINNER
After breakfast our official guide will pick you up at the Hotel and take you through the narrow streets of the historical center in order to discover the treasures of Siena.
Walking across the city you will learn about the Church of san Domenico with the relics of Saint Catherine of Siena , the spectacular Duomo, with its precious marble floor, the Piccolomini Library and the famous Ambon by Nicola Pisano (1268) and Piazza del Campo, the square world famous for the Palio horse race and for its Torre del Mangia, the second tallest tower in Italy completed in 1348.

In the evening Michele and I will meet our guests at the open-air Dinner in one of the 17 Contrada banquets. At the head table the jockey is introduce with the leaders of the contrada. There are many songs, speeches and toasts made for a successful race.
After dinner, the Captains and their assistants go to meet the other leaders of the contradas in order to make secret agreements to favour either their own victory or that of their friends contrada or to hinder their rival: all on a handshake.
August 16th: PALIO DAY
Is the day!
On morning, around 9.00 am the last trial is run. It is called the "Provaccia". After lunch is possible to attend to the benediction of the horse and the jockey. The priest, concludes the mysterious rite, with a wish that is almost an order: "Go and return victorious!"
After which, the historical parade participants of the Contradas and of the city, parade across the old town center, stopping and waving flags in Piazza Salimbeni, "casino dei Nobili", in front of the Chigi Saracini Palace, and in Piazza del Duomo. At about 15.50 pm the procession leaves the courtyard of Palazzo del Governo in Piazza del Duomo, and heads for the Piazza del Campo.
At 16.50 pm the historical parade enters the square, according to the order of the first trial run; we suggest to get your seat on Grandstand n. 9 from this moment!
At about 19.00 pm the Palio banner is hoisted up onto the Judges Stand while the final flag waving ritual of the seventeen flag wavers takes place.
The Palio is run!!
Important note. In case of rain the trial runs can be suspended until the track is sufficiently dry to use safely.
And on the day of the Palio, if the track is too wet or it rains, the Palio will not be run until the track dries out.
August 17th: CHECK OUT
Check out after breakfast.
